John McCain knew what he wanted and did something about it. Once he found that his time was short, he spent his final year planning every detail of his obituary and many memorials, right down to speakers, venues, pallbearers, and what he wanted his family to wear.
Most people I know think these thoughts but don’t know what to do with their ideas.
For many years, I have been helping my family and friends write obituaries for themselves and their loved ones, and helping them create memorable celebrations of life—often in advance of need. I’d like to help you do the same thing. May I tell you how it works?
I specialize in advance planning from simple to grand. “Fitting” is the key word. I believe that every individual life should be appropriately recognized in the most fitting way for that person and her/his family.
Our work together will take about two weeks. It begins in my office where we discuss your vision and talk about various options and ideas you may want to consider. You are able to look over many obituaries and programs I’ve collected over the years. Then we continue working together by phone and email to create exactly what feels right to you.
It’s an engaging and fascinating collaboration. Our goal is to develop a personalized, uplifting obituary and memorial that will resonate long afterward in the minds of those who care most about you.
The end result will be a completed obituary and a thorough outline for your Celebration of Life. After your approval, you will receive three copies of both documents: one to file with your final documents; another for your executor; and one for you to discuss with your family. I’ll also retain a copy.
